Premier extends condolences following passing of L. Brownlow Place

“A Bermudian patriarch and a man of true distinction,” said Premier David Burt, JP, MP, remembering the life and legacy of Mr. L. Brownlow Place who passed away yesterday just shy of his 108th birthday.

“When I reflect on all that he witnessed in such a remarkable life, it is mind-boggling. Born while World War I still raged on European battlefields and theTitanic disaster was only four (4) years prior, Mr. Place embraced all that life offered and was a man of deep convictions and unshakeable faith.

“It was a blessing to have spent time with him and his family to whom he was so precious. We are on the cusp of a Cup Match Classic in Somerset, and it is perhaps fitting that he transitions at a time of year that he loved and celebrated over generations.

“On behalf of the Government and people of Bermuda as well as my family, we express our sincerest condolences to his daughter Charlene and the entire Place family. Mr. Place was a unique and wonderfully genuine man who was never defined solely by his age, but by the incredible life and example he lived. May he rest in peace.”
