Kids Hour Saturdays at BUEI

The Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute (BUEI) is pleased to announce that Manta Rays are the topic for this month’s ‘Kids Hour Saturdays’ on July 16th!

‘Kids Hour Saturdays’ takes place every third Saturday of the month at 11am and 2pm respectively. Each hour features the screening of short films followed by a book reading for children aged 5-12 years old.

July’s Kids Hour will feature two short films entitled ‘Nat Geo Kids: Manta Ray Mania’ and ‘Majestic Mantas’ followed by a reading of the book ‘If My Family Lived in the Ocean’ by Devyn Goddard.

The first film, ‘Manta Ray Mania’ produced by National Geographic Kids, takes a deep dive with Scuba Sam to learn about the beloved giant manta ray. The film explores what manta rays look
like, how they survive in their ocean habitat and how they have been  impacted by human-made issues. The second film, ‘Majestic Mantas’, follows the journey taken by manta rays through
the Revillagigedo Archipelago off the coast of Mexico’s Pacific Ocean. The film observes the discoveries made by divers and biologists as they interact with manta rays, various types of sharks and other fish species to determine what they can learn about them and the Archipelago.

The book, ‘If My family Lived in the Ocean’, takes a trip with a young girl as she imagines what it would be like for her family to become a part of the marine life in the ocean. The story, filled
with detailed illustrations, explores which sea creatures her family would be and which oceans they would live in.

“Manta rays can be seen soaring in tropical and subtropical oceans. Here in Bermuda, our spotted eagle rays make up an important part of our underwater landscape. This month’s topic
is set to underline the importance of protecting these highly intelligent creatures and how to safeguard them.” said Karla Lacey, BUEI CEO.

Kids Hour Saturdays are free for members (Single Parent through Adventurer Tier) and $2.50
per child for non-members. Please note that caregivers must stay on site during the Kids Hour. Spaces are limited so advanced registration is encouraged. To register for BUEI’s Kids Hour, please call 294-0204.
