A 27-year-old Philippine national who made headlines this week after being identified as one of several people sought by authorities in the Republic of the Philippines in connection with a murder investigation appeared in Magistrates’ Court this morning.
Theresa Jeremias Requeme appeared before Senior Magistrate the Worshipful Maxanne Anderson as the court considered an extradition request submitted by the Government of the Republic of the Philippines.
The court was presented with an arrest warrant issued under Section 71 of the UK Extradition Act 2003, as applied to Bermuda by the UK Extradition Act 2016 and the Extradition Act 1877. The proceedings also referenced Article 2-1A of the Extradition Treaty between the Government of the Republic of the Philippines and the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
Requeme, who was born on December 24, 1998, is wanted by Philippine authorities in connection with a murder charge.
The court heard that the extradition request seeks her return to the Philippines to face the murder allegation.
Requeme was represented by duty counsel Paul Wilson, who indicated that his client intends to fight the extradition proceedings.
The court heard that Requeme has only been in Bermuda since December of 2025 and had been working at a local hotel facility.
During this morning’s proceedings, the Crown made lengthy arguments opposing bail.
After hearing the arguments, Senior Magistrate Anderson remanded Requeme in custody.
She is due to return to Magistrates’ Court on October 16 at 2:30 p.m., when an extradition hearing is scheduled to take place.
The matter remains before the courts, and the allegations against Requeme have not been proven.
