Hospitals Auxiliary of Bermuda Candy Striper Awards 2025

Six local candy stripers were honoured in the Hospitals Auxiliary of Bermuda’s (HAB) Candy Striper Award Ceremony 2025. Held on Saturday 11 January at King Edward
VII Memorial Hospital.

Azariah Greaves was named Head Candy Striper 2024-2025 at the event and was presented the
Penny Ray Achievement Award by HAB President Glen Gibbons.

“Azariah, you were chosen based on your outstanding work commitment, the number of hours you volunteered and your overall excellent attitude in your interaction with your peers, volunteers and supervisors,” he said.

Mr Gibbons also presented five Proficiency Awards. “These are given to candy stripers who have demonstrated outstanding work commitment and hours to the program,” he said. “Those receiving this award started in the 2022-year group. Winners were selected in August 2024 based on the hours to that date. Congratulations to: Surayya Trott Cann who completed 306 hours and 30 minutes; Starr Bowen who completed 200 hours; Kaitelyn Smith who completed 172 hours and 30
minutes; Kimara Cole who completed 150 hours and Destiny Parsons-Simmons who also completed 150 hours.”

Each of the five Proficiency Award winners will be considered to receive the Head Candy Striper
award which will be presented later this year.
Forty people including HAB members, candy stripers and their family members attended Saturday’s event. Mr Gibbons thanked the candy stripers for being part of the HAB volunteer programme and emphasised the importance of their work.

“Your hours of service to the hospital are truly appreciated not only by the Hospitals Auxiliary but also by the departments you serve and the patients,” he said. “I know there are other clubs and organisations you could have joined and chosen to volunteer with, but I’m grateful and proud that you opted to join us at the Hospitals Auxiliary.”
