Bermuda College Foundation (“the Foundation”) is pleased to announce the grand opening of the latest renovation project at Bermuda College (“the College), the Butterfield & Vallis Conference Centre (“the Conference Centre”).
Used years ago as a cafeteria, the repurposed Conference Centre has a capacity of 180 people and can host a diverse array of events including meetings, conferences/workshops, and special events. Renovations totaling $500,000 included a complete electrical upgrade, installation of LED lighting, removal of old duct work and insulation, installation of new HVAC system, new flooring, new ceiling tile, and a fresh paint job.
An audio-visual system has also been installed that includes:
• Two 86” wall-mounted displays and two 75” ceiling-mounted displays;
• The ability for video sources (e.g., laptops, tablets, etc.) to be sent to the displays from a wired connection at the front of the room or wirelessly via secure Crestron Air Media;
• The ability for monitors to show a single video source or separate video sources to each monitor;
• Multiple ceiling speakers for sound reproduction of presentations or for voice lift using the integrated wireless microphones; and
• The ability for technology connection to the Athene Lecture Theatre to allow for overflow capabilities.
“The Butterfield Family and Butterfield & Vallis are well known for their consistent and ongoing support of our island community and are long-standing supporters of Bermuda College,” states Garry Madeiros, Bermuda College Foundation Chair. “We are truly grateful to Jim and Spencer Butterfield and Butterfield & Vallis for their generous donation of $500,000, which has enabled the transformation of what was an underutilised and outdated facility into a beautifully enhanced space.
The Butterfield & Vallis Conference Centre not only better meets the needs of the College itself but also becomes a revenue-generating opportunity for them as they can now offer a high- quality rentable event space to the broader community.”
He continued, “I would also like to express the Foundation’s appreciation to Bendell Design, Contracting Ltd. and their sub-contractors, Michael Hollis (Foundation Director), and Cleun Gaiton (Bermuda College Director of Facilities). A project such as this requires a high level of collaboration and the efficient coordination of many players. Their efforts allowed for an almost seamless process, with the renovations coming in on budget and on time.”Jim and Spencer Butterfield commented, “Butterfield & Vallis is proud of the longstanding association with Bermuda College and the student support we have provided, especially in the culinary arts. We are pleased at this time to assist with the further development of the physical plant with the Conference Centre, which we understand will benefit both the College and the Community at large. Congratulations to all those who have worked so hard to bring this to fruition.”
“Thank-you to Butterfield & Vallis for this wonderful gift to Bermuda College through the Bermuda College Foundation,” says Dr. David Sam, President of Bermuda College. “The Butterfield & Vallis Conference Centre will be a hub of activity, not only for the faculty, staff, and students of Bermuda College, but for the local community as well. Thank you to everyone who was involved in bringing this project to fruition.
It is partnerships such as this one between the College, the Foundation, and Butterfield & Vallis that allow the community we serve to benefit. Thank-you.
The official Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony for the Conference Centre was held on Thursday, 10 April 2024, signaling the formal opening of the facility.
