Caitlin Conyers won the 32nd Annual Women Cross Country Classic organised by the Cycling Federation of Belize. Four Belizean cyclists and six foreigners competed in this annual race. The ladies raced from Columbus Park, San Ignacio, to Digi Park, Belize City.
“Awesome job; Caitlin is so happy. I am glad that at least one of the Caribbean countries came and supported this race,” commented Alicia Thompson, president of the Belize Cycling Federation. “And then you won! We have a small field here, but it was an awesome day for cycling in Belize, and we are so grateful that a Caribbean country not only came but won!”
Caitlin won in approximately three hours and 48 minutes after fаllіng bеhіnd duе tо mechanical flat tire. Shе was able to rејоіnеd thе расk after receiving аѕѕіѕtance from the support team of the 4th place finisher from Belize. Once back with the peloton, Caitlin аttасkеd соmіng іn tо Веlіzе Сіtу bеtwееn Міlеѕ 5½ аnd 6 for a solo win.
Early in the race, Conyers attacked and got away solo. Unfortunately, she suffered a flat tire and had to watch the peloton catch her and pass by. After receiving assistance from the support team of the 4th place finisher from Belize, Caitlin chased for at least 20 miles to get back in with the peloton.
Once back with the peloton, Caitlin аttасkеd соmіng іn tо Веlіzе Сіtу bеtwееn Міlеѕ 5½ аnd 6 for a solo win, crossing the finish line more than a minute ahead of the chase. After 74 miles of head-wind and heat, Conyers was able to use her time-trialling skills to come away with the crown.
Mexican rider of Team Navecamp Diana Valeria Rodríguez finished second. 2022 champions Katy Sorrell crosses the finish line in third place ahead of Kaya Catouse from Belize, who took fourth.
Conyer will head to the USA in preparation for the Tour of the Gila in Silver City, New Mexico, April 26-30th, 2023, riding for the Amy D Foundation team. Conyers joined the team after participating in 2021 and 2022 altitude camps but missed out on racing with them till now due to injuries.
