On Thursday, February 22, 2024 at High Point University, the Triad Business Journal hosted their Annual 40 Under 40 Award Ceremony to honor 40 leaders in business and community in the Triad North Carolina region.
This celebration put the spotlight on their amazing accomplishments and highlighted their contributions to the Triad region. Among the 40, daughter of the soil, Kennette J. Burgess was one of the awardees to receive this prestigious award after nominations and selection process. The recipients ranged from CEOs, educators, bankers, human resources professionals, community leaders, lawyers in every sector you can imagine.
Kennette and the other recipients were told to make a close to brief speech to which she said “Good evening. First Giving all honor to God. Special thanks to my mother Lovette, family, friends, church family and clients for supporting me. 2023 was a tough year with my father passing, so this award is dedicated to him.”
Kennette, named after her father Kenneth ‘Pop’ Leroy Simmons Jr, lost her father last year March and February 28th would be his 66th birthday, so accepting this award in memory of her dad came at the right time. Kennette knows her father Pop is smiling down at her happy for her award after he raised her working hard to put her through school and then support her businesses. Everyone who knew Pop, knew he was her biggest supporter.
At the ceremony, pictured, Kennette was accompanied by her mother Lovette Burgess Pemberton, family, friends and Pastor.
