Holiday Road Sobriety Checkpoints Scheduled

The Bermuda Police Service (BPS) recognises that during this festive season, including the upcoming holiday period, an increase in social and commercial activity takes place.

Unfortunately, an uptick in criminality and anti-socialbehaviour tends to occur as well.

Accordingly, to deter opportunistic crime and provide public reassurance, residents can expect proactive police patrols across the island into the New Year.

The BPS is also prepared to appropriately address any anti-social behaviour that may occur and will use all lawful powers to deter and detect offenders, as necessary.

Going Out? Secure Your Home, Be Mindful When Shopping & Socialising

Always lock doors and windows when leaving home, even for a few minutes. If leaving home for an extended period of time, ask a neighbour or family member to watch the house. Displays of holiday gifts should not be seen through windows or doors.

Members of our community are asked to remain alert when out shopping, particularly if late night shopping. Do not buy more than you can carry. Plan ahead by going with a friend, or ask a store employee to help carry your packages to your vehicle. Do not leave any packages visible inside the vehicle. Avoid travelling alone through isolated areas and only park in well-lit locations, if possible.

Patrons attending Christmas and New Year’s parties are encouraged to enjoy themselves responsibly. Don’t leave drinks unattended and do not accept drinks from unknown individuals. Avoid giving rides to and taking rides from unknown persons.

Road Sobriety Checkpoints Scheduled Throughout the Holidays

Motorists are advised that road sobriety checkpoints will be in effect in all 9 parishes starting Tuesday, 24th December 2024 through Thursday, 2nd January 2025.

Please plan ahead and do your part by not driving or riding impaired. If you are intending to go out and socialise, make sure you have arranged for a designated driver, taxi or another responsible transportation service to get you to your destination safely.
