Antonio Belvedere , Mark Viera and Mary Charlene Butterfield were just a couple of people who wrote and delivered letters to Her Excellency Governor Rena Lalgie this afternoon at Government House.
Mr. Belvedere explained to TNN’s Trevor Lindsay why he had decided to write and deliver his letter to the Governor Ms. Lalgie.
“ Enough is enough for this country,” he said. “ Our Premier is creating this narrative [of division], and we are here [this afternoon] to fight against it.”
According to Mr. Belvedere, the Government is planning to extend the Emergency Powers Act and keep the country under restrictions for another 60 days. He does not believe that the virus presents an emergency any longer.
“ The emergency was in March of 2020. There are better ways to battle and confront the Coronavirus than dividing our country and people,” he said.
Mr. Belvedere finds it unfair that certain large events, such as SailGP and the opening of the St. Regis hotel, can receive large group exemptions, but funerals cannot. He urges any concerned Bermudians to stand up for what they believe in and stop being so silent.
When asked what he hoped to accomplish by submitting these letters, Mr. Belvedere said that they hope the mandatory 14-day quarantine at a hotel for unvaccinated travellers will be lifted. To endure such a thing would be like prison and Bermudians are not prisoners.
Similar to Mr. Belvedere, Ms. Butterfields letters were also concerned about mandatory quarantining for unvaccinated persons returning from overseas, as she does not believe that too many people can afford to stay at places like Grotto Bay for 14 days
