Reports coming in to TNN suggesting that a police officer lost his life to circumstances that can only be described as questionable.
TNN News also understands this particular police officer has been on leave for a while due to an investigation into suspected domestic matter.
The investigation was coming to a close and an arrest was to take place for the officer. Police search for the officer and discovered him in an unresponsive state at his residence. The officer was rushed to hospital via ambulance and had passed a time later.
TNN News sought a response from the BPS on this matter. The police media relations department released the response posted below courtesy of Commissioner Darren Simons.
“I am sad to report the passing of police constable, Darren Marcano, who served the Bermuda Police Service for seventeen years and was a friend to many who knew him.”
“I can confirm that at the time of his death, he was under investigation for a criminal offense and had been suspended for gross misconduct, since July 2022. We recognize that this situation is sensitive and complex, and our thoughts are with his family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time. We urge the community to respect their privacy as they navigate this loss.”
“The Bermuda Police Service is committed to maintaining transparency and integrity, and we will continue to support all involved as we move forward. No doubt this news will raise many questions, however, given that there is an ongoing investigation into PC Marcano’s sudden passing, no further comment can be made.”
