Bermudian entrepreneur and International businesswoman Demeka Tacklyn aka Tiny T is making waves this weekend with her exclusive Gombey Collection, a product line inspired by her deep connection to Bermuda’s vibrant cultural dance tradition. The festival promises to be a one-of-a-kind experience, with Tiny T showcasing an array of items that perfectly blend style and heritage.
“I’ve got everything from book bags and travel bags to handbags, wallets for men and women, and keychains,” Tiny T shares excitedly. “If you’re traveling soon, we’ve got something for you—our collection helps you stand out and easily identify your belongings. Our Gombey book bags even come with Bermuda-themed designs, bringing island pride wherever you go.”
Tiny T has confirmed that she will bring her entire collection to the Gombey Festival, where it will be available for purchase. “I’m bringing the full line,” she says. “It will definitely be on sale at the Botanical Gardens festival also distributed across stores on the island.” With products starting at just $5, festival-goers have plenty of options to suit their style and budget.
When asked about her inspiration behind the line, Demeka Tacklyn (Tiny T) reflects on her lifelong love of dance, especially the high-energy, stamina-driven performances of the Gombey dancers. “My passion is diverse. I love dancing, and the energy the Gombey tradition brings is just incredible. It’s more than just a performance—it’s part of who I am.”
Tiny T’s journey as a Gombey dancer began at the age of 14, breaking barriers as one of the few women involved. “I was inspired by my nephew Kilroy Butterfield, my cousin Javon Richardson, and my uncle George. He was the one who let me dance with all the male, Gombey dancers which taught me strength and confidence in ways that I didn’t expect as a young girl.”
While Tiny T humbly avoids claiming the title of the third female Gombey dancer, she knows she made her mark. “I don’t know about being the third, but I know when I danced, I gave it my all. Ask any of the dancers, and they’ll tell you—I gave them a run for their money!”
For those wanting to grab a piece of her collection, Tiny T’s shop Street Vybez is open Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Court Street. Festival-goers and locals alike can look forward to meeting the powerhouse behind the Gombey Collection this weekend. With her passion for dance, her family’s legacy, and her dedication to her craft, Tiny T is not just selling products—she’s sharing a piece of Bermuda’s soul.
