TechAwards Celebrate Bermuda-Based Technology Innovators

On October 31st, the Economic Development Department hosted the annual Tech Innovation Awards, also known as TechAwards, at the Hamilton Princess and Beach Club.

Sponsored this year by Nimble, Circle, and Relm Insurance, the event was part of Bermuda’s annual Tech Education Day, itself a Bermuda Techweek event. Since 2007, TechAwards have recognised Bermuda-based companies and innovators doing outstanding work and making their mark in the technology industry.

As is the case every year, the public submitted nominations on www.techawards.bm, which were later evaluated by the TechAwards judging panels, each composed of leaders in the Fintech and technology industries.

The 2022 TechAwards reception saw the celebration of various Bermudian and Bermuda-based innovators:

  • Mobile App of the year: 1st prize: Clarien Bank
  • Mobile App of the year: 2nd prize: Whip Rideshare
  • Local Innovation of the year: 1st prize: Edu Coach
  • Local Innovation p of the year: 2nd prize: Deals – Isle of Devils
  • International Innovation of the year: 1st prize: Cactus
  • International Innovation of the year: 2nd prize: Fit to Fly BDA
  • Youth Programme of the year: 1st prize: Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences
  • Youth Programme of the year: 2nd prize: Connectech Coding Robotics Club

This year also saw the return of the Innovative Trailblazer Award, presented and sponsored by the Bermuda Business Development Agency (BDA), and awarded to Relm Insurance.

“It’s been remarkable to see the brilliant discussions and demonstrations that took place today,” said the Minister of Economy and Labour, the Hon. Jason Hayward. “As we close off another successful event, which started with a focus on Bermuda’s students and ended with a celebration of innovation and entrepreneurship, I would like to congratulate all who participated. I would also like to thank every one of this year’s TechAwards nominees for their time, foresight, and relentless problem-solving work.”

BDA CEO David Hart said, “The BDA was pleased to again support the TechAwards by presenting the Innovative Trailblazer Award to RELM Insurance Limited for their innovative products, such as digital asset insurance. Congratulations to RELM for winning an award recognising the best Bermuda-based company to use new technologies to conduct international business, participate in the local marketplace, and utilise Bermuda as a testing site for further tech advances. It is through events such as the Bermuda Tech Summit and the TechAwards that we continue to build a strong foundation for Bermuda’s burgeoning tech ecosystem.”
