Swan has harbours solution to electric vehicle rain problem

While the recent deluge of rain that has cascaded down onto local shores has proven the bane of Bermuda’s fleet of electric buses and several compact rental vehicles, one car rental company has gone unscathed by the weather.

Michael Swan, owner/operator of car leasing company Bermirentals, told how he had developed a solution to combat the issue of heavy rain and the corresponding puddles produced after his own vehicles had initially incurred difficulties driving during sustained periods of rain.

“We’ve been operating for about six years now and when I first started out in business I ordered three cars and we did actually have an issue with rain,” explained Swan. “I studied the situation and actually found a solution for it, which I relayed to the manufacturer.

“In the 6 years since I found a solution we have not had a problem. Most of our cars, over this rain or biblical proportions, we have had zero issues.

“The solution that we found I don’t know if it is applicable to the buses or everyone else, but I’m inclined to think it would be. I know that some of the other rental companies, when they first got their cars in, had problems with rain.

I have no idea how they resolved their issues, but we resolved ours six years ago and I actually called PTB last week to offer my assistance, because I paid for those buses I don’t want to see them breaking down.

“I’m really into electric vehicles and believe it to be the way forward for Bermuda, which is why I called.
“But no one’s called me back, so I’m hoping they got it solved because to have 11 brand new bosses not working in the rain is not good at all.
