Police Officer Arrested for Firearm, Ammunition and Drug Possession

In the early hours of Monday, April 22, 2024, the Bermuda Police Service began a targeted operation, which resulted in the arrest of a Police Sergeant, seven associates, the recovery of a firearm with ammunition, and a very significant quantity of drugs. The arrests were made in connection with an ongoing investigation that includes corruption.

 

The officer has been charged with Conspiracy to import and supply controlled drugs, Conspiracy to import and supply firearms and ammunition, a Computer misuse offence, and Attempting to pervert the course of justice.

 

Corruption undermines the very foundation of our society and betrays the trust placed in us by the community. We will act resolutely and decisively to root out those members of the service who violate that trust. Let this be a clear message to all; such conduct will find no shelter in the Bermuda Police. If found guilty, the officer will face the full force of the law.”

 

The public can be confident that we are committed to transparency and accountability at all levels. We are taking proactive steps to prevent similar incidents in the future, including the creation of an Anti-corruption unit and the development of a strategic plan to mitigate the risk of corruption.

The arrested officer has been suspended, with pay, in accordance with legislation.
