Governor supports upcoming Children’s Reading Festival

The countdown to the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III & Her Majesty The Queen Consort is underway. And Overseas Territories and Commonwealth countries will be hosting a number of activities to mark the occasion.

Here in Bermuda, there are a series of events taking place for Coronation Weekend. One of the events is the The Royal Edition of the Annual Children’s Reading Festival (CRF), being hosted by the Bermuda Alumnae Chapter (BAC) of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, with the Government of Bermuda. This week in lead up to the event, Her Excellency the Governor Rena Lalgie welcomed the Sorority to Government House to extend her support for the importance of literacy and reading.

The Royal Edition of the Annual Children’s Reading Festival (CRF) is designed to promote a love of reading in our children. Every child in attendance at the CRF will receive a free book. There will be resources for parents to explore how to support their young readers and opportunities for creative play and exploration to stimulate and challenge in a fun-filled venue. The Royal Edition of the Annual Children’s Reading Festival is a nod to Her Majesty Queen Camilla’s commitment to literacy, particularly for young people.

This week in the lead up to the event, Her Excellency the Governor Rena Lalgie welcomed the Sorority to Government House to extend her support for the importance of literacy and reading. The Governor said, “I’m delighted to support the Children’s Reading Festival again this year, as I believe literacy is extremely important and paramount in the development of all children. I congratulate the ladies of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated for their dedication to children’s reading, and truly appreciate the festival incorporating various aspects of the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III and Her Majesty The Queen Consort.”

Nina Jacobs, President of the Bermuda Alumnae Chapter said, “We are very honoured to be partnering with the Government of Bermuda to commemorate the Coronation through ‘The Royal Edition’ of the Annual Children’s Reading Festival. We are appreciative of Her Excellency’s continued support of the literary festival and pleased she took the time to meet with us and donate one of her treasured books.”

The Royal Edition of the CRF takes place on May 8, which is also a public holiday. Other events taking place during Coronation weekend include:
