The recent commentary by failed OBA candidate and disgraced former Senator Vic Ball should be taken as a reminder of what we are fighting against and who we are fighting for.
The fight to restructure Bermuda to benefit the many and not the few, the elite and privileged, wasn’t just a slogan and wasn’t just a cynical political promise. It remains at the core of who we are, what we stand for, and what keeps us focused on the job at hand.
“It hasn’t been easy, and we know that we have not gotten everything right. Where we have made mistakes, we sincerely apologise. Where we haven’t communicated effectively, we will ensure that we do better.
Rest assured our hearts and minds remain focused on making life better for Bermudians.
That’s why we have renovated 77 additional units for additional affordable housing for Bermudians in spite of the objections of the OBA and their friends in the private sector. We aren’t afraid to take them on to deliver more housing for you
That’s why when the OBA and their backers complained, and fought against putting in a hourly minimum wage for Bermudian workers, we stood firm and pushed it through.
When the OBA Caucus and candidates weopposed improving Worker’s Rights and the modernization of our Labour Laws we stood firm and pushed forward for you.
We are holding firm on protecting Bermudian Civil Service jobs despite the OBA repeated demands that our fellow Bermudians be forced into unemployment.
We continue to provide for struggling families and encourage Bermudians that have emigrated, and gained valuable experience overseas to return home and make a contribution here.
In efforts to reduce the burden on consumers, we have reduced payroll taxes for 86% of the population and we have eliminated duties on fruits and vegetables, among other initiatives. We have expanded Day Care allowances for the young children of hundreds of Bermudian families. Thousands of seniors have received additional pension funds and or increases to their allowances for senior homes.
You see, thousands of Bermudians lives have been improved since 2017. Clearly, these are the undeniable facts that the OBA and Mr. Ball wish to avoid speaking about.
Let us never forget, we fight against forces that profit from the status quo and that will use every weapon in their arsenal to keep Bermuda exactly as it is.The road we are on is long and isn’t easy. Yet, we are focused on learning from our mistakes, and better delivering on an agenda that benefits you and your families.
