Death of defendant brings end to case of alleged sexual exploitation

Supreme Court proceedings against a St George’s man accused of five sex related offences were today discontinued, after the defendant failed to appear due to his untimely death.

The 64-year-old man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was scheduled to appear as part of the monthly arraignments session.

TNN understands that the man was discovered in an unresponsive state yesterday at a residence, where he was later declared to be deceased.

In court the prosecution entered a motion of nolle prosequi for a discontinuance of the case based on the defendants inability to appear, bringing an end to the criminal aspect of the matter.

Meanwhile, TNN awaits an official  statement regarding the circumstances of the man’s death.
