Conflicting Reports Circulating, Taxi Drivers Up In Arms

Taxi drivers are reportedly up in arms after being told one of their colleagues kicked a visiting family out of his vehicle after refusing to turn in the air conditioning at the family’s request. However based on checks by TNN that this may not have been the case.

The incident is alleged to have occurred back in early July when the family are said to have boarded the taxi and asked for the a/c to be turned on.

Reports are the driver refused and told the passengers to open the window. An argument is said to have ensued with the passengers threatening to report the matter to police.

TNN has been told by cabbies their colleague then drove the family to the Somerset police station and left.

However, checks by TNN have revealed another version of events.

We were told the taxi driver did in fact turn the a/c on as requested but advised the family they would have to put on there mask while inside his vehicle.

It is understood they indicated the did not have masks. The driver then reportedly offered them masks but they are said to have declined.

That’s when the cabbie asked them to depart from his vehicle.

The family allegedly threatened to report the driver to the police and he is understood to have driven them to the Somerset police station at no cost.

TNN has been advised the situation was discussed among the parties and it was agreed the family would board a different cab and be taken to their destination.

A spokesman for the Bermuda Police Service told us: “An officer assisted in an amicable settlement of the situation and assisted the family by calling for another taxi. This is not a criminal matter and is not being pursued by the Bermuda Police Service.”
