The Bermuda Tourism Authority (BTA) has suspended CEO Tracy Berkeley and senior staff member Tashae Thompson due to allegations of gross misconduct. An investigation is now underway to determine the extent of the issues within the organization.
Erin Wright, the current Chief Operating Officer, has been appointed as the acting CEO. However, concerns have been raised about her appointment, as many believe she was aware of the workplace issues but did not act. Critics argue that the entire senior leadership team should be replaced to ensure a fresh start for the organization.
Adding to the controversy, a job posting for a Vice President of Human Resources (VP of HR) recently appeared in The Royal Gazette’s employment section. Some industry insiders, have pointed out that hiring a VP of HR before appointing a permanent CEO is premature. They argue that the CEO and VP of HR need to be aligned in their vision for the organization, making this move questionable.
The BTA board is now under pressure to act quickly and decisively to restore confidence in the organization. However, reports suggest the board is currently divided on the best course of action.
The Bermuda Tourism Authority Board issued a statement: In response to the numerous queries received by the BTA, the Board of Directors confirms that two executive members of staff are currently on administrative leave. Erin Wright serves as the Acting CEO during this time. As this is an internal personnel matter, no further comment will be made at this time.
