BermudAir, Bermuda’s only locally-based airline, and the Bermuda Olympic Association (BOA) formally announced a new partnership today.
Under the arrangement BermudAir will provide support for BOA in advance of the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris this July and beyond. For both entities, this represents a new level of community engagement as a multi-year agreement spanning the next four years. As the Official Airline of Team Bermuda, BermudAir’s support will include travel arrangements and helping to promote Team Bermuda and BOA to other potential sponsors and the public in various ways.
That promotion will include displaying the Team Bermuda logo on BermudAir aircraft.
“We’re very proud to support the BOA and their work with local athletes who are committed to earning their place on Team Bermuda,” said Adam Scott, Founder and CEO of BermudAir.
“The athletes working to represent Bermuda at the pinnacle of global sport have taken up a significant mission. The level of grit, determination and dedication required to reach the Olympics is awe-inspiring. From what
we’ve seen, the BOA is working hard to ensure it can keep helping athletes towards reaching that goal, and in relation to the other sporting events they coordinate, and we’re very happy to support that effort.”
Peter Dunne, President of the BOA said: “This is an exciting development for our athletes and our
organization, and certainly the first time that the team has had an opportunity like this. We expect that the thrill of seeing the Team Bermuda logo on the BermudAir planes right next to the Bermuda flag will resonate with the entire community and bring further pride to our Olympians as they step into the world’s largest sporting stage. We appreciate the enthusiasm with which the entire BermudAir team
has embraced this relationship and is a reminder of how the Olympics can unify our public support of the athletes.”
The new partnership was celebrated in a brief ceremony at BermudAir’s offices in Hamilton, which included Adam Scott, Peter Dunne and Branwen Smith-King, BOA’s Secretary General. Also present was athlete Adriana Penruddocke who has qualified for the Paris Olympics and will represent Bermuda in sailing, in the ILCA 6 dinghy class.
Team Bermuda so far includes Adriana as well as rower Dara Alizadeh. The community is also hoping to see Bermuda’s Olympic Gold Medalist and triathlon World Champion Dame Flora Duffy defending her title.
“As anticipation builds towards the Games in Paris, we’re looking forward to celebrating Team
Bermuda together with the BOA and the entire community,” Adam Scott added. “Our team will be rooting for Team Bermuda as they represent the island at the world’s biggest sporting event this summer.”
