Principals and staff from the Western and Eastern parish primary schools recently participated in a two-day onboarding session to shape the future of education in Bermuda.
More than 60 school representatives from West End, Somerset, St. George’s Prep, East End, and St. David’s Primary Schools attended the event, which the Education Reform Unit organised as part of the ongoing school transformation initiative.
Led by the Minister of Education’s Education Reform Team, the sessions provided invaluable insights and collaborative discussions to support the next parish primary school. The key topics covered included:
- The School Transformation Journey – An introduction to the strategic vision guiding education reform.
- Vision for Learning – A system-wide and local approach to reimagining the learning experience.
- Education Reform Unit Workstreams – Understanding the key focus areas driving change.
- Inclusivity and Cultural Responsiveness – Ensuring a diverse and equitable learning environment for all students.
- Real-World Learning Experience Framework – Aligning education with practical and future-focused skills.
- Parish School Design Briefs for Buildings – Outlining plans for modern, purpose-driven school facilities.
The Minister of Education, Senator the Hon. Crystal Caesar, JP, opened the workshop with an inspiring message, expressing deep appreciation for the educators’ commitment to shaping a world-class education system.
Minister Caesar stated, “School Transformation Teams are the driving force behind the evolution of our schools. Comprised of educators, parents, students, business leaders, and community members, these teams will design, prototype, and implement innovative teaching and learning models.
“The Education Reform Unit is leading 11 School Transformation Teams and 17 workstreams across the island, all focused on revolutionising primary education and three senior signature schools. Over 150 passionate educators, parents, students, and community members are working towards a shared vision that prioritises personalised, flexible, relevant, future-focused, inspiring, and authentically Bermudian learning experiences.
“The path ahead is both challenging and exciting. Transformation begins today—with all of you in this room. Your voice, insights, and dedication are vital to this journey.
“We acknowledge that education reform is a continuous learning process, and we are committed to refining our approach to best serve Bermuda’s students. Today is an opportunity to engage, collaborate, and contribute to shaping the future of our education system. Your role is not only important—it is essential.”
School teams will reconvene in March, April and June to finalise the selection of transformation teams for each school, marking another step forward.
