Once upon a time, there were two Bermudas, growing together but living very different lives. One Bermuda, Opportunity, was full of ambition, always chasing growth, development, and international success.
The other Bermuda, Community, was grounded, caring, and held onto the traditions of the island. For years, these two Bermudas shared a common dream: a prosperous future where everyone thrived.
Opportunity painted a picture of thriving businesses, new developments, and a bright future. Community believed in this vision, hoping it would bring better healthcare, housing, and jobs. But as time passed, Opportunity’s focus shifted. High-end development projects and foreign investors became the priority, and Community began to feel left behind.
Healthcare and access to essential services became a struggle for Community. Housing prices soared, and homelessness grew while Community stood by. Meanwhile, Opportunity, focused on wealth and expansion, seemed to forget the promises made to the people at the heart of the island.
Even with these challenges, Community admired what Opportunity had achieved—there was pride in the international success. But loyalty was no longer enough to mask the rising healthcare costs, unaffordable homes, and a lack of economic equality. The connection they once shared wasn’t enough to bridge the growing divide between them.
