On Saturday, May 20th, the Women’s Resource Centre will offer a free workshop for expecting and new mothers.
The workshop, Mother’s Emerging, will be facilitated by Feven Binega-Northcott, a local Birth & Lactation professional and owner of Harmony Birth Services, with over a decade of experience supporting women in childbirth and the postpartum period. The workshop will focus on adjusting to motherhood, understanding your baby and support tools for the postpartum period.
Studies show that women who lack control and a sense of agency during birth or have poor care and support are more at risk of developing post-traumatic stress disorder, postpartum depression, and other birthing-related mental health challenges. Empowering women with the right tools and resources to have a successful pregnancy, birthing and mothering experience will make a long-lasting positive impact on our entire community.
Juanae Crockwell, Executive Director of the Women’s Resource Centre, says:
“In the spirit of Mother’s Day and the celebration of motherhood, this workshop is very timely. We hope that expecting, new or new again mothers will join us for an enlightening afternoon of community learning and support.”
“The Women’s Resource Centre is committed to supporting women in transition at various stages of life. Motherhood is an incredibly life-changing undertaking. We believe that all women should have access to the support services they need to have the best possible pre and postnatal experiences.”
“We are excited to partner with Feven as she brings vast knowledge and experience as a doula and childbirth educator. She will create a safe space for mothers and share her expertise with them.”
Feven Binega-Northcott, doula and owner of Harmony Birth Services shared that, “Motherhood is a transformative journey filled with joy, challenges, and endless discoveries. I am thrilled to collaborate with the Women’s Resource Centre to provide insights and tools to help mothers navigate the transition into their parenting roles confidently.”
The workshop will be held at the WC Training Room from 3pm to 5pm and will be baby friendly. Anyone interested in attending is encouraged to call the Women’s Resource Centre on 295-3882 or email wrc@wrcbermuda.com.
