Bermuda saw it’s opportunity to qualify for the Gold Cup end on Saturday, when they lost 2-0 in a Nations Cup match against Guyana at Flora Duffy Stadium.
Two second half goals were enough to earn the visitors a victory over a Bermuda team that never truly threatened to win the match, as they were dominated throughout on home turf.
Guyana got goals from midfielder Liam Gordon and defender Jeremy Garrett during a five minute stretch after halftime and never looked back.
The South Americans could have had even more goals if it were not for Bermuda’s goalkeeper Dale Eve pulling off a string of top class saves in the first half that kept the scoreline respectaple.
Guyana took the lead through Liam Gordon, as he hammered home from close range after Emery Welshman had nodded on a right-wing cross into the penalty area.
Eve was again helpless to keep out another close range effort from Jeremy Garrett, who was able to control another cross from the right side before picking his spot past Eve.
Bermuda showed glimpses of good attacking form late in the match, after coach Kyle Lightbourne make five substitutions, but the match had long ceased to be a contest.
