Hamilton, Bermuda — As entrepreneurship continues to gain momentum among young Bermudians, one up-and-coming hairstylist is carving out her own niche in the beauty industry by specializing in curly hair.
Gianni Paynter, who operates under the name Gigi Loves Hair, has spent nearly 15 years working with hair and has been a professional hairstylist for the past decade. For more than six years, she has developed a particular specialty in caring for and styling curly hair.
Paynter says her services cater to everyone, but her focus is primarily on clients with curly hair. Her work includes curl definition and refinement, haircuts, colouring and styling.
Her journey in the industry began in Somerset at Charmaine Hair Loft before she moved to Salon Pink, where she spent six years and further developed her expertise in curly hair.
After gaining years of experience working for others, Paynter decided it was time to take the next step and become her own boss.
She said the transition into entrepreneurship has been a positive experience so far and has allowed her to build a business around an area of hairstyling she is passionate about.
Paynter is now based on Front Street at the Emp Building, where she works from Jmilan Beauty.
Clients looking to book an appointment can find her on Instagram at Gigi Loves_Hair or contact her by email at GS.paynter3@gmail.com.
Her regular hours are Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with Friday and Saturday hours from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., respectively. She also encourages potential clients to reach out regarding appointments outside of her regular availability, depending on her schedule.
For anyone considering her services, particularly those looking for curly-hair expertise, Paynter says the best place to start is with a consultation.
She believes a consultation gives both stylist and client an opportunity to understand one another, discuss expectations and determine the best approach for the client’s hair.
For Paynter, the goal is not simply to style hair, but to build a relationship with her clients while continuing to grow as a young entrepreneur and business owner.
Her story is another example of young Bermudians turning their skills and passions into businesses and creating their own paths toward success.
