Works and Engineering’s Carpentry Department is mourning the loss of one of its most dedicated and valued employees.
Kenneth Cann, a skilled carpenter who rose through the ranks, tragically passed away on Friday, leaving behind a void that will be deeply felt throughout the depot. His contributions and unwavering work ethic made him an irreplaceable member of the team. His sudden passing has left everyone at Works and Engineers in shock and grief.
Today the department heads conducted a memorial service in honor of their colleague.
TNN News spoke with the Minister of Works and Engineering, Minister Col. the Honorable David Burch. Colonel, an invaluable employee of yours, Ministry your thoughts on this individual?
“Yes, everybody’s shocked. We had a memorial at the depot this morning, which is a custom and practice that we do in Public Works. Everybody basically said the same thing—an outstanding employee who had a yearning for knowledge and was just a pleasure to work with. Nobody could recall him ever being angry about anything. I’m sure he has been, but he never displayed it to any of us.
It is always poignant when blue-collar workers, who people think are not of any feeling, come together and express their regret, concern, and love for a colleague. It’s a very, very sad time for everybody, but I wish the family the sincerest condolences. The world is so small. I didn’t realize until I met his mother this morning that she used to work here at the depot as a nurse, and her son worked here now. I mean, it really is just a testament to his commitment and the impact he’s made on the world, Public Works, and Bermuda.”
TNN News: Minister, lastly, you get employees that come one in a million that have ethics like Kenny Cann.
“Yeah, yeah, my interaction with him was not as much as those who worked with him, but every time I saw him, it was always a positive interaction, and he always had a recommendation on something I should be doing. That was true of everybody who he met. He always had a recommendation for something to improve life in Bermuda.” Minister, thank you.
