Westgate Officers Save Inmate After Apparent Suicide Attempt in Segregation Unit

An inmate at the Westgate Correctional Facility is recovering after correctional officers reportedly intervened and saved his life following an apparent suicide attempt last week.

TNN News understands the incident occurred on Wednesday, the eve of the annual Cup Match Classic, when a foreign national inmate who had been placed in segregation for his own protection was found unresponsive inside the correctional facility.

According to information received by TNN News, the inmate had been moved to the segregation unit after allegedly being bullied and threatened by other inmates. Sources indicate that officers discovered the inmate in an unresponsive state and immediately initiated life-saving measures.

Emergency responders were summoned to the facility while correctional officers reportedly performed CPR until medical personnel arrived. The inmate was subsequently transported by ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for further treatment.

TNN News understands that the swift actions of correctional officers were instrumental in saving the inmate’s life.

In an effort to verify the circumstances surrounding the incident, TNN News has sought official confirmation and comment from the Attorney General’s Chambers and the Department of Corrections.
