After nearly three weeks of evidence and testimony, the trial involving Curtis Richardson, who was accused of causing the death of Marco Warren in a traffic collision, has ended with a guilty verdict.
A jury of six men and six women returned a unanimous verdict after approximately two hours of deliberation.
Following the verdict, members of Marco Warren’s family spoke with TNN outside the Dame Lois Browne-Evans Building, reflecting on the three-year journey they say they have endured since Marco’s death.
The family described the verdict not simply as the conclusion of a criminal trial, but as the culmination of years of prayer, perseverance and standing together.
One family member said:
“He heard our tears. He seen our tears. He seen our private tears, our private prayers, our private reflections. And I think this is what it looks like when a family sticks together.”
The family member said that while the family is not perfect, they have remained united by their faith and their love for Marco.
“Number one, our faith. Number two, our love for Marco. And I think we fought. We fought for three years together. When one of us were down, the others were picking us up.”
The family described Marco as a brother, son, father and a staple within the Bermuda community, saying they believed he deserved to have his case pursued through the justice system.
They also expressed gratitude to members of the Bermuda community who supported them throughout the three-year process.
“We want to thank the community because I don’t care what anyone said, Bermudians rallied together to help us in any way they could, whether it was words, information, anything. Bermudians stuck together and they stood behind us.”
The family also thanked those who assisted them during the proceedings, including Crown Console Mr. Carrington Mahoney from the DPP’s who they said fought hard on their behalf.
But despite the guilty verdict, the family said there was no sense that Marco could ever truly be replaced.
Asked whether she felt a sense of relief following the verdict, one family member responded:
“No. I don’t feel relief, because nothing is going to bring Marco back at the end of it.”
She said her faith had been central throughout the ordeal, particularly during the moments when she struggled emotionally.
“Every time I struggled and, you know, I had to go to God, and this is God. God is in control of everything.”
Marco’s mom also spoke about Curtis Richardson and his family, saying they would continue to pray for them despite the verdict.
“We also want to pray for the other family because it’s really nervous. You know, in life there are consequences, and hopefully we learn from them and we support each other.”
The family said they harbour no animosity toward Richardson.
“We have no animosity, no remorse as such. Disappointment, but no animosity. So we’ll be praying for him and his family.”
The family also reflected on Marco’s son, Vega, saying the verdict provides an important answer for a young boy who will eventually have questions about what happened to his father.
“He’s going to have to grow up wondering what happened. We have that answer for Vega. So in addition to everything else we said, it’s another young black boy growing up, and we know that we fought hard for his dad.”
The family repeatedly returned to their faith, saying they believe Marco’s death forms part of a greater purpose, despite the pain his loss has caused.
They said the family’s journey has ultimately been about seeking truth, rights and justice while maintaining compassion for others.
For Marco Warren’s family, October 1, 2026, marks the end of a three-year legal journey — but not the end of their grief.
Nothing, they say, can bring Marco back.
But they believe standing together, supporting one another and remaining faithful carried them through the trial and to today’s verdict.
