Warriors yet hopeful of West End being saved

The West End Warriors are anxiously awaiting word from government as to the status of West End Primary within the future of the public school system.

After initially announcing that the historic institution on Scott’s Hill Road would close as part of the restructuring of the schools system, Minister of Education Diallo Rabain promised a rethink on the proposed changes involving some of the island’s primary schools that had been designated for closure.

“The minister said that the legacy aspect of the schools would be given greater emphasis in considerations of the future status of the schools,” said Ellen Kate Horton, a prime member of the pressure group.“We are about to get another letter out to the ministry shortly, but we do not know the process that they plan to use. The last thing that we heard was what was said in the meeting, that they would redo schools that have not been the schools that have not been chosen as parish primary schools.

The woman said she was hopeful that the government was giving honest consideration to the decision to close and not just lip service.

“Can you imagine them closing the school and the damage and void it would leave in this community.
“There has to be something wrong with that picture.”
