Vision Bermuda Gears Up for Tag Day & Raffle Week to Support Vital Services

Bermuda’s only charity dedicated to supporting residents with vision impairments is gearing up for a week of fundraising and community engagement. Under the leadership of Executive Director Erica Ingemann Vision Bermuda will host its annual Tag Day on Tuesday, October 7th, at Lindo’s Warwick. Volunteers, staff, and even some clients will be out in the community, inviting the public to give generously to help sustain and expand the charity’s programs.

For decades, the organization—formerly known as the Bermuda Society for the Blind—operated a popular workshop making handcrafted stools. While that chapter has closed, Vision Bermuda has evolved with the times, now offering rehabilitation Services for people with sight loss. These include low vision assessments, mobility training, and a variety of interest-based support groups.

“Our biggest challenge is raising the funds needed to enhance our existing services and offer a range of options to meet the diverse needs of all our clients.” Erica explained. “We have clients of all ages—and we want to meet everyone’s needs.”

Vision Bermuda doesn’t require a doctor’s referral—anyone can self-refer or be referred by a friend or family member. The charity serves multiple groups daily, with as many as 15 people in a single session.

The fundraising push won’t stop with Tag Day. On Thursday, October 9th, the charity will host an Open House to mark World Sight Day, culminating in a raffle draw at 1:00 p.m. Raffle tickets are $5 each and can be purchased from Vision Bermuda’s headquarters, their website, or social media pages.

Some of the Prizes include:

  • One-night stay for two in a deluxe room with buffet breakfast at the Hamilton Princess Beach Club
  • Dolphin Quest encounter for five
  • 60-minute massage at La Serena Spa
  • $100 gift certificate to Lily Bermuda Perfumery
  • $125 gift certificate to Alexandra Mosher Studio
  • Mobile interior and exterior car detail from C&R Detailing
  • 100 exercise classes from Cut 2 Fit
  • Apparel from Inclusive Identity

Erica stressed that the charity operates almost entirely on the generosity of the community. “Financial donations are always appreciated, but volunteers, equipment, and program resources make a huge difference too,” she said.
