VERBAL VICTORY – BERMUDA SPELLING BEE FINAL

The Buzz is in the air! The Bee is about to land!

The Final of the inaugural Bermuda Spelling Bee Competition will be held at The Berkeley Institute on Saturday, 8th March, commencing at 2:00 p.m.

The competition was open to Bermuda’s public, home-schooled and private school children aged 9-13. Preparation began in October last year when schools were provided with a list of words to be learned for the competition.

The following nine Spellers, the top three in each of the three Regional Semi-finals held on 2nd February, will be vying for the coveted title of Bermuda’s Best Young Speller.

Leyana Williams, age 13, Warwick Academy

His Excellency the Governor, Mr. Andrew Murdoch,and Minister of Education, the Hon. Crystal Caesar, will be in attendance to present the trophy and other prizes to the winners.

The Trustees of Verbal Victory Bermuda Spelling Beethank all participants, their families, coaches and supporters for believing in Bermuda’s young people and for supporting them so generously in their efforts. The Trustees also thank the Spelling Bee’s sponsors, particularly Gold Sponsor, The Royal Gazette, Silver Sponsor, Contemporary OB/GYN, Bronze Sponsors Conyers, Allied World and Trott & Duncan, and other sponsors for their contribution to the success of the Spelling Bee.

Public attendance at the Final will be by invitation only. Schools have been allocated a limited number of tickets for distribution to participating students’ family members and friends.

The Hon. Justice Norma Wade-Miller, OBE, JP (Ret’d), Chair of the Spelling Bee’s Trustees, said: “Words cannot actually capture how  immensely proud we are  of all students who participated in Bermuda Spelling Bee. Although only one champion will be chosen, all are winners!”
