Tyree Fubler Portrays a Teenage Clyde Best in The Beautiful Game

With excitement building around the upcoming film The Beautiful Game—the much-anticipated movie chronicling the life and legacy of Bermuda’s own football legend Clyde Best .

TNN’s Trevor Lindsay caught up with one of the film’s youngest and most promising actors: Tyree Fubler, the young man chosen to portray Clyde Best during his early teen years. The film is expected to premiere next March, and Tyree’s role offers Bermudians a unique glimpse into the roots of one of the island’s most celebrated athletes.

Tyree, bright-eyed and humble, settles in to talk about his unexpected rise to the big screen.

A Somerset Trojan With a Lifelong Love for Football

“Yes, I do,” Tyree says when asked if he currently plays for the Somerset Trojans. In fact, he plays on both the senior team and the under-18 squad—a testament to the skill that earned him a spot in an international film.

He recalls the moment football became a permanent part of his life:

“I’ve been playing football since P1, in primary school. The first time I picked up a ball and I just never stopped.”

For Tyree, football is not just a pastime; it is the rhythm of his everyday world.

“Football to me is a lifestyle because that’s all I do for real. It’s a very enjoyable task and experience in my opinion.”

• Becoming Clyde Best: The Role of a Lifetime

When the film’s producers began recreating Clyde Best’s early years—his days on the fields of Somerset, long before West Ham United—they needed a young Bermudian who could move with the same raw talent and instinctive touch that Best had shown as a boy.

Tyree stepped into that role effortlessly.

“In the movie I didn’t really have to do no talking,” he explains. “It was just more like actual ball work… recreating scenes that Clyde Best would do when he was younger. I had to control the ball on my chest, score off a half volley, dribble through a team of players—all that type of stuff. It was good.”

Though the film incorporates modern visual effects, Tyree never made the trip to England or to West Ham Stadium. Instead, technology helped filmmakers recreate the environment, while Tyree focused on embodying Clyde Best’s youthful energy and talent on Bermuda’s own fields.

“I think I was portraying his younger self when he was playing for Somerset and stuff,” he says. “Not yet West Ham.”

A Versatile Player With Big Horizons

When asked about his position on the pitch, Tyree smiles.

“I play two positions actually. I play CAM and left wing. I alternate—it depends on the game.”

He pauses to clarify for those unfamiliar with modern terminology:

“CAM means Central Attacking Midfielder.”

A Message to Bermuda’s Young Footballers

For Tyree, the experience of portraying a Bermudian icon has only strengthened his resolve. He hopes that other young players across the island will pursue their dreams with the same belief and dedication.

His advice is simple but powerful:

“I would just say play it, enjoy it, and try to take yourself as far as you can with it. Just be determined.”
