The last two years have been quite a whirlwind for everyone, but especially for one of today’s graduate of the Bermuda College Wanda Trott-Murray.
Ms. Trott-Murray got married at the beginning of 2020, had a child towards the end of 2020 and recently gave birth to another boy in January of this year. She had these two kids all while enrolled in the College’s Associate Nursing program.
“ It has been a journey [to this day], but I have made it and I am proud of myself,” she said. “ My husband was a huge help during this process and he helped out whenever and however he could . . . even my sister-in-laws helped out with babysitting sometimes when I had to go to clinicals at 7 am.” I also would like to acknowledge my parents and my in-laws who played a large part of this process.
For ay single mother out there who is thinking about going to school or back to school, Ms. Trott-Murray urges them to go for it.
“ The staff, especially with this program, are extremely supportive with everyone’s individual situations,” she said. “ They’re women, nurses and mothers themselves. They understood and were very accommodating.”
She believes that people in the college’s Associate Nursing program become family and lifted up and supported each other throughout its entire run.
“ We started with 12 in the program and now five are graduating. It is possible to happen because the staff work with us on everything,” she said.
