Two more people have died as a result of the coronavirus, the Government has confirmed in it’s health department website.
This news brings the total number of deaths from Covid-19 to 157.
There are 13 people in hospital being treated for the virus, an increase of six persons more than last Wednesday update, including one who is in ICU.
There are a further 25 active cases who are not in hospital, bringing the total number of active cases to 38 – four more than a week ago.
The website reports indicates persons aged 80 and above account for 11 of the active cases. The next age group is 50 to 59 where there are six cases.
There is also one case in a child in the ten and under age group. The average age of current cases is 61.
There have been a total of 18,751 cases of Covid-19 in Bermuda, an increase of 33 on last week.
Of the total number of confirmed cases in Bermuda, 4,240 were imported, 6,165 were transmitted locally with a known contact, 8,254 were transmitted locally with an unknown contact and 92 are under investigation.
The Ministry of Health has acknowledged that a true picture of Covid-19 cases could not be known.
However, the number of hospital cases can act as a indicator for the extent of the virus’s spread and its severity.
Late last year, health department officials confirmed that a highly contagious variant of the virus had been detected on the island.
