Shortly after 9:30 p.m. on Friday, December 8th, 2023, officers were on mobile patrol on North Shore Road, in the vicinity of the Esso service station,Crawl Hill, Hamilton Parish, when they observed a motorcycle traveling in an easterly direction overtake a number of cars and almost collided with traffic traveling in the opposite direction.
Police activated their emergency equipment signalling for the vehicle to stop. The motorcycle rider failed to stop for police and continued traveling along North Shore Road.
Officers monitored the vehicle’s movements from a distance and approached once it came to a stop after having turned onto Summit View Drive.
Officers observed a small child on the back of the motorcycle.
They then engaged the motorcycle rider, a male, at which point they observed signs of impairment.
Demands were made for samples of breath from the rider but he refused and was subsequently arrested for driving while impaired.
A check on the motorcycle revealed it had previously been reported stolen. The male was further arrested for taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent and cautioned.
A relative of the arrested man attended the scene where he became combative and was arrested for conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace.
The child was left safely in the care of another relative.
