At around a quarter to two this afternoon, two people were shot and injured on Court Street in the second shooting in the area within only eight days.
According to Bermuda Police Service Detective-Superintendent Peter Stableford, the two injured persons were transported to King Edward Memorial Hospital following the shooting and the hospital is now in lockdown.
“ I know that a lot of people like to speculate whether or not the shooting was gang-related, the BPS does not know at this time, but we are not ruling anything out,” Detective-Superintendent Stableton said.
Two individual on a motorcycle wearing dark clothing stopped on Court Street, shot at two males on the side of the wall and sped off.
Detective-Superintendent Stableton and the BPS as a whole are urging anyone who might have known or seen anything this afternoon or have any dash-cam footage or CCTV in the area to please call the BPS at 211 or the confidential CrimeStoppers number at 800-8477.
The extent of the two victims’ injuries remain unknown at this time.
TNN spoke with the Minister of National Security the Honorable Rene Ming, JP, MP regarding the incident.
“ There is some activity going on which is certainly on our radar, and the Ministry is concerned at every incident where anyone may have been shot at,” Minister Ming said.
“ This is very disturbing and the Ministry is planning to have further discussions with the Gang Violence Reduction Team and the BPS.”
Similar to Detective-Superintendent Stableton, Ministing urges anyone who have have seen anything to please speak up, because the issue will not get any better is people do not speak up.
A police spokesperson added: “The scene was cordoned off, processed and has since been released. The conditions of the two injured men believed to be 31 years old and 73 years old respectively remains unknown at this time. However, an update on this investigation, as well as their medical conditions, is anticipated in due course.”
