Zane DeSilva recently held his annual turkey giveaway, with those of Constituency 29 the welcome benefaciaries of plump birds to include on Christmas menus.
The Member of Parliament expressed great joy and satisfaction in being able to serve his constituents with a tangible gift to be enjoyed with others at Christmas.
“It was fantastic, truly fantastic, brilliant,” said Mr DeSilva of the event, which say turkeys being delivered to the doorsteps of area residents. “I say that, because I’ve been doing it now for 15 years and every year I give away 150 turkeys.
“Why I say it was brilliant this year over most is that, I first noticed last year and this year again, that I did not only receive thanks and appreciation, but you could really feel the heartbeat of the people that received these turkeys.”
“You could tell that people were so appreciative. So much so that one lady and I cried together. She had lost her husband, maybe two or three months ago, and she cried and I cried with her this year, which as really heart warming.”
The MP made sure to note that he could have done little without the aid of his assembled team of workers, led by Sean Simons.
“I have to mention my team as well,” said Mr DeSilva. “I have a fantastic team who help, not only with this, but we were trailblazers with our back to school event, our tea event, which we do every year.
“There are a lot for people in Southampton, not always highlighted mind you. We do a lot of clean-ups. We do tree trimming and things like that.
“But with regard to the turkey give-away, Christmas is something special.
“It’s heart warming. Sometimes it’s a sad time for people that have lost loved ones.
“So for us our team, ably led by Sean Simons, I have to say that I love you all and Southampton loves you as well, it’s a fantastic job that you have done and that you do and you are very much appreciated.”
