TL set to stage seniors tea party in advance of Cup Match

Providing more than tea and crumpets it that time of year again where TL Productions provides an afternoon of entertainment for local seniors in the form of a tea party with pizazz.

July 31 is the date for this year’s extravaganza, which will take place at Somerset Cricket Club from 12 pm until 3 pm and will feature local saxophonist Desmond Smith and his band as the main musical attraction, but promises a few surprises.

The event will cater to up to 200 people and is free to all seniors, who will be allowed to bring a caregiver if necessary to aid them, although they will not count against the guest list.

“This will be our fifth presentation of TL’s Pre-Cup Match/Pre-Emancipation Day for Seniors and each year it grows bigger and we try to implement new and different entertainment for seniors to enjoy,” said Smith. “This year I’ve spoken to Desmond Smith, who has a band and is a musician and vocalist and he’s going to be the major part of the entertainment.

“And then I plan some surprise entertainment, which everyone is absolutely going to love and be talking about for quite a long time , which I’m not going to release the detauils of, but it will be very, very exciting.”

In order to be eligible to attend a person must be at least 65-years-old and either call or have someone else call and reserve a place at the table.

Smith, a staunch Somerset supporter anticipates this year’s event being a kick-off for the Cup Match Classic and to help spur another year of success for the current cup holders.

“As long as I’m alive I’m hopeful of the event continuing,” said Smith. “I have a lot of supporters that contribute to the event, who I’m sure will keep it going.
“It’s a community event that people look forward to. The community donates everything to us, from food to cups to paper and all the accessories.

“Former president Alfred Maybury provides a tent, along with tables and chairs and it’s just an example the wider community, from St George’s to Somerset coming together.”

Smith also has a plan of naming two “young ladies” as Ms Senior Cup Match, with one to represent St George’s and the other Somerset, while also recognising the eldest person at the tea party.
