Throne Speech will introduce Domestic Violence Court

Tomorrow marks the beginning of a new legislative session, ushered in by the annual Speech from the Throne

This ceremonial address, delivered by the Governor from the throne, outlines the government’s priorities for the coming year. The speech itself is crafted by the Progressive Labour Party government, led by the Honourable Premier David Burt, and is expected to shed light on key issues and legislative goals set to shape the nation’s future.

TNN received an exclusive sneak preview of a portion of the upcoming address, offering a glimpse into the direction of this new session. The excerpt reads:

“In keeping with the Government’s focus on bringing aid to the most vulnerable populations, the Ministry of Youth, Social Development and Seniors will lead a cross-ministry team, struck to provide further intervention to identified high-risk families.

This intensive family preservation team will address the need for basic life skills, ensuring the welfare of families and children with stable and suitable housing, nutritious food, and access to medical care. The multi-generational trauma endured by these families can and must be halted.”

 Additionally,

“In partnership with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and the Judiciary, the Ministry of Justice will support the creation of a domestic violence court programme, ensuring devoted attention to the protection of victims with speedier protection orders and equally requiring accountability on the part of perpetrators.”
