Bermuda awoke Sunday morning to widespread power outages as wet and blustery conditions continued to impact the island, leaving thousands of residents without electricity.
According to Belco, just under 3,000 customers are currently without power, with the largest affected areas located in Pembroke, Hamilton Parish, Paget, and St. George’s areas.
Speaking this morning, Shelly Lehman, Managing Director of Transmission, Distribution and Retail at Belco, said crews are actively responding to outages while closely monitoring weather conditions.
“Good morning, Bermuda. It’s Sunday, February 1st, and we rise today with continued wet and blustery conditions,” Lehman said. “Additional Belco crews are being mobilized to support restoration efforts as conditions are expected to deteriorate late this morning into the afternoon. Crews will continue to respond as long as it remains safe to do so.”
Belco also advised the public that its 955 customer service number is temporarily out of service. IT teams are working alongside telecommunications partners to restore functionality as quickly as possible.
In the meantime, customers experiencing power issues are encouraged to email info@belco.bm. For emergencies such as pole fires, residents are urged to contact regular emergency services immediately.
For the latest updates on outages and restoration efforts, Belco recommends visiting Belco.bm or following the company’s official social media channels on Facebook, X, and Instagram.
As weather conditions are expected to worsen later today, residents are reminded to exercise caution and stay informed as restoration efforts continue.
