The Open Your Heart Foundation celebrated a major milestone on Friday, hosting its 15th Annual Good Friday Extravaganza at Warren Simmons Naval Field, drawing thousands from across the island for a day filled with unity, joy, and community spirit.
The family-friendly event brought together children, seniors, and residents of all ages in what many described as a vibrant, love-filled atmosphere. From energetic races and tug-of-war competitions to lively dance contests, the celebration offered something for everyone.
Speaking at the event, PR and Marketing Director for the OYHF, Debrina Simons, reflected on the day’s success and the deeper meaning behind the long-standing tradition.
“Friday was truly incredible,” she shared. “The energy, the love, and the togetherness—it felt like an island-wide family reunion. Seeing families, seniors, and children all enjoying themselves in one space was overwhelming in the best way.”
This year’s event introduced new elements, including a revamped “Kids World”, sponsored by the Office of Youth Affairs, which provided more interactive and engaging activities for young attendees.
A standout highlight was the enhanced focus on seniors, led by the Director of Seniors, Galvette Place, whose initiative ensured that Bermuda’s older generation was celebrated in style. Supported by the Ministry of Youth and Social Development and Seniors, the seniors’ area offered a warm, elegant environment—complete with music, dancing, and special recognition for their contributions to the community.
The event also attracted a number of prominent figures, including Premier David Burt, Deputy Premier Zane De Silva, and MP Curtis Dickinson, area MP Jahmal Simmons along with other dignitaries who came out in support of the initiative.
Organizers emphasized that the heart of the extravaganza lies in bridging the gap between Bermuda’s youth and its senior population, fostering unity across generations.
The foundation extended heartfelt gratitude to its sponsors, donors, volunteers, and media partners, including TNN News, which has supported the event for several years. In recognition of the milestone, TNN News presented the organization with a commemorative plaque honoring its 15 years of community impact.
As the celebration concluded, one message rang clear: the Good Friday Extravaganza continues to be a powerful symbol of love, gratitude, and togetherness in Bermuda—and its legacy is only growing stronger.
Our sponsors are the heartbeat of the organization within them this could not have happened. Definitely shout out to The Office of Youth Affairs, for sponsoring the Kidz World, Island Construction, Quest Consulting, Bermuda Tourism Authority, Viking, BGA, Barritts, Young Smiles, Willocuts, SCC and the many food facilities that provide food for the many thousands of people in attendance.
