The Salvation Army’s Tag Day scheduled for Wednesday

Her Excellency Governor Rena Lalgie was recently presented with the first tag of the
Salvation Army’s Red Shield Tag Day, which will be held on Wednesday, May 22, 2024.

Receiving the Governor’s donation is 6-year-old volunteer Matteo Ramabuke, along with Lieutenant Lester Ward, Executive Director, Bermuda Community Services and Area Business Manager presenting her with the Salvation Army Red Sheild tag. Also joining them in support is the Salvation Army Bermuda Area Commander Major Cathy Simms and Captain Dennis Maybury incoming Bermuda Regional Public Relations Officer designate.

“The public is encouraged to give as the Red Shield bucket will be featured in key spots throughout Hamilton, and at various Somerset and St. George’s locations. All funds will go toward the many local Community and Family
Services programs offered,” the Salvation Army said.

Every dollar raised through the donations collected from this tag day stays locally and is used to fund vital programs and services across Bermuda. The Salvation Army works to provide the necessities: food, clothing, and shelter, while
offering life-changing programs, such as substance abuse recovery, housing support, job and life-skills training, and education classes that help people find a way out of poverty, permanently.

The Salvation Army assists those in need 365 days a year. Last year, we once again saw the practical demand for local help with just under 50,000 visits made to The Salvation Army in Bermuda for assistance, with 20,650 meals
handed out in feeding programs, 8,085 visits for food, clothing, Christmas food hampers and toys, or practical assistance.

There were 10,340 contacts for street ministry and 7,442 shelter bed days and 2,718 addition bed days (residential usage of the Salvation Army’s facilities). For over 128 years this work in Bermuda continues because of your generosity, and your donations enable us to be there, giving hope. Thank you for being such a vital part of
meeting the needs of our community all throughout the year.
