Her Excellency the Governor, Ms Rena Lalgie, is delighted to announce the upcoming visit of Alderman Professor Michael Mainelli FCCA FCSI (Hon) FBCS, Lord Mayor of the City of London 2023-24 on 8th – 10th September.
An international ambassador for the UK’s financial and professional services sector,
the Lord Mayor also heads the City of London Corporation, the governing body of the Square Mile. He will be accompanied by Tim Rolph, Swordbearer and Head of Programmes at Mansion House and Simi Shah, Trade and Investment Director, City of London Corporation.
Lord Mayor of London, Michael Mainelli, said: “I’m looking forward to my visit, the
UK and Bermuda are two of the biggest insurance centres in the world and enjoy very close ties politically, economically and familiarly. I’ve already had a positive meeting in London
with Premier E. David Burt, where we explored how our insurance sectors could better
work together to serve clients.
“During my visit I hope to enhance collaboration with the Bermuda Stock Exchange,
financial institutions, and professional services firms, with a particular focus on digital
assets, insurance-linked securities and financial innovation. As the first Lord Mayor to visit
in 35 years I’m keen to identify two-way investment opportunities, particularly in sectors
such as digital finance, green finance, and space technology to the benefit of both sides.”
The visit presents a unique opportunity to deepen the relationship between
Bermuda, the City of London and the wider United Kingdom and aims to reinforce
the strong ties with key financial and professional services stakeholders, as well as
look to future potential opportunities.
