Team Hayward sets the record straight against OBA RG story

There is an opinion column in the Royal Gazette by One Bermuda Alliance (OBA) Candidate Clifton Lambert regarding the meeting held by Progressive Labour Party (PLP) Leadership Candidate, Minister Jason Hayward at Francis Patton Primary School.

In this column, OBA Candidate Mr. Lambert blasts PLP Members for not allowing him to attend a PLP meeting.

The Team Hayward campaign would like to clarify that this was, by branch request, a Members Only Meeting. This was NOT a public meeting, and therefore admittance was restricted to PLP Members only.  This is not abnormal for any political party or private organization.

The invitation for the Team Hayward meeting clearly stated it was for members of the Hamilton Parish and Smith’s Parish branches. The body of the invitation was never to the general public. By his own words, Mr. Lambert was even afforded the opportunity to join the PLP and attend the meeting, but he chose not to do so.

Comparing a PLP members’ meeting to MP Curtis Dickinson’s public Fireside Chat is an unfair comparison.

Our next meeting of Paget and Warwick branch chairs, branch executives, members and prospective members will be held on Monday, July 20th 6PM at the Warwick Workmen’s Club. Likewise, we will have other events that will specifically be open to the public.

The next PLP Leader will be chosen by the PLP delegates, who are chosen by the PLP members. When OBA candidates feel that they can attend PLP meetings, and then submit op-eds endorsing a particular MP for PLP Leader, PLP members’ eyes should begin to open widely.
