Teachers walk out of class at St Davids Primary School

Teachers at St. David’s Primary School walked out of the classroom earlier today in protest against escalating violence against teachers and staff.

TNN’s Trevor Lindsay spoke with a reliable source who express frustration over student behavior and perceive a lack of accountability or disciplinary action from the Ministry of Education.

Educators cite a lack of action from school administration, leaving both teachers and students vulnerable to aggressive behavior from students who have been improperly placed and not disciplined appropriately.

This protest highlights ongoing concerns within Bermuda’s education system. Last month, parents, students, and politicians protested against the planned closure of the Gilbert Institute, urging the government to reconsider its decision.  Additionally, in February 2025, a group of parents and students gathered to demand a pause on current education reform plans, emphasizing the need for improvements that prioritize children’s well-being.

The Bermuda Union of Teachers has also raised alarms about the “unbearable strain on educators due to staffing shortages, safety concerns, and inadequate support,” underscoring the urgency of addressing these systemic issues.

The situation at St. David’s Primary School reflects broader challenges within Bermuda’s educational institutions, necessitating prompt and effective responses from educational authorities to ensure a safe and supportive environment for both educators and students.
