Police and dog wardens called into action yesterday after a stray pitbull dog bit two people in a a Southampton neighbourhood.
The incident happened shortly after 2:15 p.m. when two pitbull dogs were seen roaming Cliff Crescent in Southampton.
Residents told TNN the animals were going after vehicles travelling along the roadway causing one motorcyclist to almost lose control of his vehicle as he attempted to avoid being bitten.
The dogs were reportedly at one point out on Middle Road still going after vehicles. One of them was killed after it ran into the path of an oncoming vehicle and was struck.
Police were called to the scene and there were reports an officer had shot the second dog. However, that proved to be untrue.
Contacted about the situation a police spokesman told TNN: “Around 11:20 a.m. on Monday, January 1, 2024, Police were dispatched to the Cliff Crescent area Southampton, to a report of two pitbull dogs on the loose.
Upon arrival one of the dogs was found lying lifeless on the roadway after it had reportedly been struck by a car.
The other remained on the loose and officers were informed it had bitten two people.
Officers eventually located the dog at a residence on Cliff Crescent.
They were forced to use Captor spray to keep the animal at bay.
The Animal Warden was called in and the dog was captured without further incident.”
The matter is now being dealt with by Animal Control staff.
