“Staff Cry Out For Help at Warwick Rest Home”

According to a Lorraine Rest Home employee who wishes to remain anonymous, things started going downhill at the home following the suspension of an administrator who, in the opinion of staff, had been running the facility well.

Our source told us the suspension was carried out by a senior official of the Warwick Parish Council, which operates the home.

Staff allege that official, who they say has no medical experience, has taken over the home, since which, they claim, patients have begun to face neglect. The employee we spoke with said. “Some of the staff are in agreement with how the home is being run while others want to leave because they feel things are so bad there . . . no one who is currently running the home has any experience in that field.”

Residents we’re told, no longer receiveing the daily newspaper and are being told they can instead look at the news on television or, on-line.

It is alleged that twenty-three patients at the rest home, out of twenty-eight total, contracted the Coronavirus during the latest outbreak a number of individual in doubler figures had died.

“Deaths started occurring at the home after a number of administrators were suspended. A lot of the issues affecting the home have been reported to the Bermuda Health Council and nothing has been done yet.”

According to one employee, a high-ranking member of the government has requested an investigation into the goings-on at the home and patients’ family members do not know the real situation.

TNN has been told by staff that family members have not been able to visit their loved ones because of the COVID restrictions. They said, “It costs $5000 a month to stay at the home and very few people know what really goes on inside.”
