St. Mary’s Church to Hold “Remembrance of All Souls” Service

St. Mary’s Church in Warwick will host a special Remembrance of All Souls service on Saturday, November 2 at 6:00 p.m., offering the community a moment of reflection, prayer, and light to honor loved ones who have passed.

Speaking with TNN News ahead of the event, Father Carl Williams of St. Mary the Virgin shared the heart behind the service, noting its deep meaning both within the church calendar and for the wider Bermudian community.

“We at St. Mary’s look to the Blessed Virgin Mary, who points people to Jesus,” Father Williams said. “In our community, we’ve seen the loss, the pain, and the shock of sudden deaths — whether through traffic accidents, industrial accidents, or violence. This service is about remembering those souls and surrounding their families with prayer and love.”

All Souls Day is observed annually across the Christian world as a day of remembrance for the faithful departed. St. Mary’s will dedicate this year’s observance to “all of our dear and beloved souls here in Warwick and throughout the wider Bermudian community.”

The evening will include scripture readings, prayer, uplifting music, and a symbolic act of illumination. Parishioners and visitors will be invited to light candles or use cell phone lights at gravesites, creating a moment of shared reflection across the churchyard.

“Can you imagine the light of all those candles or phones shining over each grave?” Father Williams said. “It’s a way to connect with our loved ones — to remember the light of Jesus and give thanks for the love and companionship of those who have shaped us.”

Invitations have also been extended to local and national leaders to participate in the service. Father Williams emphasized that everyone is welcome to attend — especially families who have experienced recent loss.

“We remember because they are important to us,” he said. “We especially hold in prayer those who have lost loved ones suddenly — in road accidents, industrial accidents, or through violence. May God bless you all as we remember your beautiful souls.”

The Remembrance of All Souls service will take place at St. Mary’s Church, Warwick, on Saturday, November 2 at 6:00 p.m. The public is warmly invited to attend.
