St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Warwick, one of Bermuda’s oldest and most beloved parish churches, continues its year‑long celebration of 400 years of worship, heritage, and community service. Established in 1626, the historic church has served as a spiritual home for generations and is known for its distinctive architecture, deep roots in Warwick’s story, and commitment to preserving Bermuda’s sacred history.
The church will be dedicated to the Glory of God on Sunday, October 4, at 4:00 p.m., by the Right Rev. Nicholas B.B. Dill, Bishop of Bermuda. The guest preacher will be His Grace, the Most Rev. Philip S. Wright, Archbishop in the Province of the West Indies, Primate, Metropolitan & Bishop of Belize. The officiant will be the Rev. Carl Williams, Priest in Charge and the church’s first Black priest.
As part of the anniversary observances, the parish will host Jazz Vespers on Sunday, September 27, at 4 p.m. in the church. This special service blends the beauty of Anglican Evensong with the gentle, contemplative soundscape of jazz. Robert Edwards and Friends will present familiar hymns in a reflective jazz style, creating an atmosphere of prayerful calm and musical artistry in the historic sanctuary.
Immediately after Jazz Vespers, guests are invited to the launch of the commemorative volume Reflections of Faith: Celebrating 400 Years at St. Mary’s in the Church Hall. The hardbound book features Surgeon Johnson Savage’s 1835 painting of Warwick Pond and St. Mary’s Church, along with historical reflections by Warwick writers and a special focus on the Enslaved and Freed Blacks’ Graveyard. Copies will be available for purchase; the book is $25.00, cash only.
Light refreshments will be served, and all are warmly welcome to attend for cordial mingling and fellowship while Historian Andrew Bermingham autographs copies.
