St George’s make one change for Cup Match 2026

Challengers St George’s have unveiled their squad for this year’s Annual Classic with just one change from the team that battled Somerset to a rain-affected draw at Wellington Oval in 2025.

The East Enders have called up young Keegan Jones as a colt, replacing Marcus Scotland who misses out, after sitting out the entire season with a knee injury. Jones, a burgeoning all-rounder, gets his first Cup Match nod and adds depth to a side already packed with batting and bowling options.

Sinclair Smith will again lead St George’s, with Macai Simmons again as vice-captain. Smith marshalled the side through a tough 2025 match where St George’s declared at 243-9, with Delray Rawlins falling just short of a century on 98 and Onias Bascome making 43 to drag them back from trouble on day one.

The spine that performed in 2025 remains intact, with batting firepower coming in the forms of Rawlins, Bascome, and Jonte Smith, who were key to St George’s recovery after trailing Somerset by 115 on day one.
Back to lead the bowling attack is Zeko Burgess, who took 5 for 61 in Somerset’s 291, supported by Luke Horan, Kevon Fubler, Isaiah O’Brien and Nzari Paynter, who all bowled in both innings last year.

St George’s 2026 Cup Match Squad: Sinclair Smith (captain), Macai Simmons (vice-captain), Jonte Smith, Delray Rawlins, Onias Bascome, Zeko Burgess, Kevon Fubler, Luke Horan, Isaiah O’Brien, Nzari Paynter, Keegan Jones (colt).
Reserves: Saqui Robinson, Nyhrobi Carmichael, Jahnoi Bean
Junior Reserve: Issac Todd

With minimal changes, St George’s are clearly backing continuity. The 2025 draw was frustrating for coach Clay Smith, who said the 3-hour rain delay “definitely affected the outcome”.

This year they’ll be hoping Jones’ all-round ability can be the difference-maker to finally wrestle the Cup back from Somerset.
